SEVS- Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme

This is a relatively new import scheme, developed by the government to offer a stable structure for the import industry. SEVS allows many various models to be imported however extremely strict guidelines are imposed regarding the compliance of these vehicles.

Ruling: A vehicle is eligible under the SEVS if it has never been sold in Australia in full volume and complies with 2 of the 4 following criteria.

  1. Appearance: The vehicle must be different and unique in its appearance.
  2. Unusual Design Features: The vehicle must have an unusual design feature.
  3. Performance: The vehicle must meet a minimum power to weight ratio.
  4. Specialist Publications: The vehicle is advertised regularly in a specialist publication.

Compliance
All SEVS vehicles must be complied by a “Registered Automotive Workshop”. A RAW has a government licence to comply certain vehicles. When considering importing a SEVS vehicle IMPORTS101 will organize compliance through a RAW prior to importation. Click RAWS for comprehensive details of compliance.

Availability of SEVS compliance is constantly growing so for a current list of all SEVS models with available RAWS compliance click here.
